Day One of South Vietnam Tour

This first day was quite enjoyable. We manage to aboard Singapore Airlines flight with almost empty airplane. You might asked whats the benefit of all that? Well, with so many empty rows, we can pretty much take 3-4 empty seats and put them together as (slightly uncomfortable) bed. However, since this is a short-distance flight, the benefit was actually much less. Has this occurred on long-haul flight, we could have much better sleep.

On our arrival, we were picked up by our local tour guide. Coincidentally, we also met another family that was joining up with our travel group. Strangely, none of us were expecting another group to be joining with us. So, we were having mixed feeling about it.

On one hand it was disappointment since we couldn’t have the tour guide for ourselves only. But on the other hand, it was probably going to be more fun to travel with larger number of people.

This reminds me of another discussion I have had with my uncle recently. Either we travel privately (i.e. only our own family) or in larger group, there isn’t much difference. Especially for us, Indos, we seems to have this “the more the merrier” perspective during leisure time. Although once in a while, we always complained that we couldn’t overslept just a little bit longer just because other people are waiting hehehe..

Anyway, on our first day, we went to the first Post Office in Ho Chi Minh city. Coincidentally, opposite the Post Office was also the first cathedral built in Vietnam. They were not only beautifully built but also well-maintained. I took few photos for you have a look at. Our hotel was not that far either from these buildings. The hotel was pretty grandeur from the outside, especially the lobby. It gives you that woaahhhh sense at first, until we went inside inspecting the rooms. I guess it wasn’t that bad, but it was just a bit old.

However, the location of the hotel was pretty good and the beds were clean as well. So I guess we couldn’t complain much other than just enjoying the trip. =)

At night we have dinner on cruise boat. It went across hmm… particular river that I don’t know its name.. The meal was quite alright and a lot too. Best of all, it has live entertainment on board. We have singers (including self-proclaimed singers from another Japanese tour group) as well as fire-dancers.
